Los Banos, Merced County
San Luis Reservoir, completed in 1967 in the hills west of Los Banos, is the largest off-stream reservoir in the United States, filled with water pumped up from the Delta. Highway 152 passes it on the way over Pacheco Pass to the coast. North and east of town lie tens of thousands of acres of marsh, wintering ground for huge flocks of ducks and geese.
